THE Soweto Comedy Festival Southern African Tour is set to rock Maseru on 3 June 2016, with the organisers promising a side-splitting fiesta at Victory Restaurant in Moshoeshoe II.

The tour is being organised by the Premium Comedy company, which was founded by stand-up comedian Kedibone Mulaudzi. Since its establishment nine years ago, the Soweto-based Premium Comedy helped unearth and nurture many comedy greats such as Eugene Khoza, Trevor Noah, Tumi Morake, Tall Ass Mo,Trevor Gumbi and Jay Boogie among others.

Mulaudzi told the Weekender from his Johannesburg base this week they were looking forward to tickling Basotho’s funny bones.

Among the comics lined up to perform at the show include Chris Mapane, Thapelo Kingflat, Thenyiwe Moseley, Phillip Dikotla and Kedibone Mulaudzi while Lesotho would be represented by Bofihla “Lilaphalapha” Neko.

“It will be our first time in Lesotho, and we are more than excited for this opportunity to share with Basotho our great stories,” he said.

“We are also looking forward to see Lilaphalapha perform as we have heard many great things about him. So, we are looking forward to an exhilarating show.”

Mulaudzi said the show was part of a regional tour which began in Soweto earlier this year.

“After launching our tour in Soweto sometime in March, we performed in Botswana the following month, and Lesotho is the second country we are visiting outside South Africa. From Lesotho we will head towards Swaziland then Zambia and Malawi.”

He also said their comedy revolved around everyday life experiences such as politics, the economy, growing up and relationships among themes.

Meanwhile, Lilaphalapha told the Weekender this week he aimed to give a commanding performance since the troupe would be coming to his “turf”.

“While the show is not a competition, I will not let them steal the show on my turf. I am going to give it my all and show them that Lesotho has a lot to offer as far as comedy is concerned,” he said.

“This will be the first time I will be sharing the stage with comics from Premium Comedy, but I know they are good at what they do. One thing I will certainly not be is intimidated.”

Lilaphalapha also expressed gratitude to the organisers for including him in the line-up.

“I thank the organisers for including me because it means they believe I have what it takes to perform on the same stage as the Premium Comedy crew. I will not disappoint them,” he said.
